News24 host James Morrow reports US President Donald Trump has approved a recommendation for Nidal Hassan to be executed by firing squad, in what would be the first US military execution by that method since World War II. “The Pentagon has announced that it will carry out the first military execution by firing squad since the end of World War II,” Mr Morrow said. “Nidal Hassan shot and killed 13 US soldiers at Fort Hood way back in 2009. And Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has just made the recommendation, just approved by President Trump, that he be executed by firing squad. “And not only that, the event will be made public. “This is quite an extraordinary step. Nidal Hassan has been waiting for his comeuppance for some time now, but this is quite extraordinary.”
