Retired US Air Force Colonel Rob Maness supports the proposed execution of Nidal Hasan at the site of his 2009 attack, saying the decision sends a clear message about the consequences of terrorism. “It is a bit extraordinary, only in the sense that it is going to be a public firing squad. And one other thing, it's happening at Fort Hood, where Hassan did his Islamic terrorist attack,” Mr Maness told News24 host James Morrow. “It's making an example of him. And that firing squad, I hope they ask for volunteer soldiers from Fort Hood who were there at the time so they get the opportunity to participate in that. “I think it's right and just that this execution take place the way the president has directed it to take place.”
