​‘Not a good faith party’: Canavan slams Labor for undemocratic Digital Duty of Care bill

​Nationals Leader Matt Canavan says Labor is not a “good faith” party and should not be trusted with the enormous power Digital Duty of Care laws would give them. ​“This legislation would give the minister the power to decide what’s harmful, and clearly they think what’s harmful, Andrew Leigh said it, is their political opponents. ​“You can’t, in a free and open democratic society, give the executive government that kind of power to silence and gag their political opponents, which clearly he wants to do. ​“They’re just not a good-faith party, the Labor Party, on this issue. ​“Going forward with this Digital Duty of Care legislation would be like putting Anthony Albanese in charge of referring a South Sydney Rabbitohs game. ​“He’s a big Rabbitohs fan; he can’t be trusted to referee such a game. ​“What we need to have is to give people more choice, more opportunity, to decide what they see online without the government interfering in a political and partisan way.”
