Canavan warns algorithm crackdown will give Labor the power to ‘silence’ political opponents

​Nationals Leader Matt Canavan warns the Digital Duty of Care laws would give Labor an undemocratic amount of power. ​“They just can’t be trusted here to be given an enormous amount of power,” Mr Canavan told News24 host James Macpherson. ​“This legislation would give the minister the power to decide what’s harmful, and clearly they think what’s harmful, Andrew Leigh said it, is their political opponents. ​“You can’t, in a free and open democratic society, give the executive government that kind of power to silence and gag their political opponents, which clearly he wants to do.”
