Lionel Messi retires from international football

Lionel Messi has retired from international football. He had a career spanning more than two decades, which saw the now 39-year-old winning three major trophies for Argentina, including the 2022 World Cup. He had hinted towards a retirement after the passing of his dad last month. Sharing a handwritten note on Instagram, he wrote: “I love, have loved, and will always love being part of the national team. “I've given everything I had; I have nothing left to give, and besides, there are some great young players coming up who deserve to be here.”
