News24 host Jaimee Rogers warns the sale of a historic Williamstown naval shipyard to a property company with Hong Kong-linked ownership could undermine Australia's sovereign defence capability. “At a time when we're being warned Australia faces its most dangerous strategic environment in decades, we're selling off Defence properties,” Ms Rogers said. “Now to add to the list, a historic naval shipyard in Williamstown, Melbourne, dating back to 1858, is under contract to be sold to a property company with Hong Kong-linked ownership. “At what point do we stop treating strategically important Defence infrastructure like ordinary real estate? “And in a crisis, we don't have time to rebuild what we've lost. Australia should be strengthening its sovereign defence capability. Not gambling with it.”
