Australian productivity ‘completely hopeless’ after years of ‘lazy’ economic policy

​AFR Political Editor Phil Coorey says governments have had a “lazy” approach to economic growth over the last 30 years. ​“They’ve relied on population growth to grow the economy and not much else,” Mr Coorey told News24. ​“Our productivity is completely hopeless. ​“So maybe government’s just got to get a bit smarter and do more with fewer people coming in because you will end up at this sort of crunch point like we’re seeing now. ​“We don’t have uncontrolled migration like Europe, but people feel it’s uncontrolled and that’s a problem, and it needs to be addressed.”
