Children living close to popular primary schools should not be disadvantaged in securing a place because of their address or socioeconomic circumstances, said Mountbatten SMC MP Gho Sze Kee in parliament on Wednesday (Oct 7). Under the 2027 changes to the Primary 1 registration framework, 12 schools in neighbourhoods where public housing makes up less than 40 per cent of homes within 2km will split their Phase 2C places into two tracks – one for applicants living within 2km, another for those beyond it – with no home-school distance priority within either track. Ms Gho questioned whether children living near the 12 affected schools would be disadvantaged. She also asked about the potential impact on travel times and enrolment pressure at neighbouring schools. #sgnews #singapore Subscribe to our channel here: https://cna.asia/youtubesub Visit our website: https://cna.asia Download our app: https://cna.asia/app Get our editors' picks of stories via chat apps: Telegram: https://cna.asia/telegram WhatsApp: https://cna.asia/whatsapp Follow us on these platforms: https://www.facebook.com/channelnewsasia https://www.instagram.com/channelnewsasia https://www.tiktok.com/@channelnewsasia
