Taiwan begins annual Han Kuang exercise, its largest war games of the year

Taiwan has kicked off its annual Han Kuang exercise, its largest war games of the year. Unscripted, this 42nd edition will be focused on realism, with moves to counter changes in China's strategy towards reunification with Taiwan. The commanders don't know what's coming next and they will have to react as it happens. Troops are also landing on two small islands off the southeastern coast, because if Beijing ever took them, they could be used as bases — launch pads for helicopters and drones aimed right at eastern Taiwan.
