SMRT Trains recorded S$12.8 million in net profit, nearly double the S$6.9 million a year earlier. The previous financial year was hit by the six-day East-West Line disruption and related costs. SMRT Trains' revenue rose 5.6% to almost S$%970 million, which the rail operator attributed to higher ridership and fare revenue. Meanwhile, SMRT is also testing a technology at Marina Bay station that could help staff detect potential issues earlier, respond more quickly to incidents and automate routine station functions. Called SMART Station, it uses a virtual model to provide staff with real-time visibility of station conditions. Beatrice Yap reports.
