Southeast Asia haze: Sarawak launches three-day cloud seeding to mitigate worsening conditions

A cloud seeding operation has begun in Sarawak to mitigate transboundary haze, ahead of an expected dry spell next month. The eastern Malaysian state is among the hardest hit by smoke blowing from fires in Indonesia. In the Philippine capital, a modest reprieve in pollution levels but authorities say the air quality remains unhealthy for vulnerable groups. Indonesia meantime has cancelled in-person classes for students in worst hit West Kalimantan province of Southeast Pontianak, where air quality readings have passed 1,000. Firefighters in Kalimantan and Sumatra are struggling to contain raging blazes, especially in peatland areas. Saifulbahri Ismail reports.
