South Korea President Lee Jae Myung has called for stronger independent defence capabilities, amid his US counterpart Donald Trump's push to trim down on joint military drills. Defence officials have reportedly met in Seoul to cut back on the ongoing Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise. Mr Trump yesterday linked the move in part to Seoul's refusal to support Washington's war on Iran, pressuring its ally to shoulder more of its own defence costs.
