Scrapping PSLE could create new pressures for students: David Neo

Removing the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) could create new pressures for students, such as shifting competition to Primary 1 admission or balloting for secondary schools, Second Minister for Education David Neo said on Tuesday (Sep 29). He added that the trade-offs are not reasons to avoid changing PSLE, but Singapore needs to be "clear-eyed" about the intended and unintended effects. "For every proposal, we should ask: Will it give our children more room to learn, to explore and to grow? Will it preserve fairness and maintain high standards? Would it help families focus more on a school's fit for their child?
