The Direct School Admission (DSA) programme should not be used as an admissions strategy but to recognise and develop children's talents, Second Minister for Education David Neo said on Tuesday (Sep 29). Mr Neo added that changes to DSA would send wrong signals to children and may create more areas where families "feel compelled to invest just to compete". "A child should be able to enjoy a sport without being asked whether it will produce medals or whether it will contribute to their DSA portfolio. A child should be able to learn music without every lesson building towards a certificate," he said.
