During the debate in parliament on changes to Singapore's political salary framework on Thursday (Sep 10), Workers’ Party chief Pritam Singh sought two clarifications on ministerial salaries. First, Mr Singh asked for more information on the variable components of ministerial salaries from 2018 to 2024. Second, Mr Singh asked what the MR4 salary would be if the maximum variable bonus under the 2026 committee’s proposed framework was taken into account. Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing responded to both clarifications. On the bonus information sought by Mr Singh, Mr Chan said the national bonus framework and other salary components were already public. During the clarifications, MP Saktiandi Supaat asked whether there would be a regular debate on the political salary review every five years, even if action on a review was deferred. And MP Darryl David asked how the government would take forward suggestions to incorporate a quality-of-life measure and review or delink the allowances of MPs and other roles from political salary benchmarks.
