Nepal-Tibet disaster: Death toll soars to more than 600; nearly 3,000 people remain missing

Nepal says it could cost up to US$5 billion to rebuild, after devastating floods along its border with Tibet. More than 600 people have died, while nearly 3,000 are missing. A torrent of rock, ice and mud tore through mountain river systems on Aug 26, killing 626 people in Nepal and seven in Tibet. Kathmandu says nearly 2,500 people are still missing, while Beijing reports that more than 550 are unaccounted for across the border. They include at least 540 foreigners.
