Nepal flash floods: Over 550 missing in China, relief efforts ongoing

Search and rescue operations are being hampered by bad weather and widespread damage following catastrophic floods and mudslides at the Nepal-Tibet border. At least 165 people have been killed, with hundreds missing on both sides. The disaster struck Gyirong Port in Tibet's Shigatse region on Wednesday (Aug 26), severing road, communications, and power links. On the Chinese side, over 550 people remain missing. Tibet has activated its highest level natural disaster relief response, mobilising firefighters, engineering teams, armed police, and military units from Beijing, Chengdu, and Chongqing. More than 150 vehicles, search dogs, and specialist equipment have been deployed. China has allocated over 200 million yuan (US$30 million) for relief efforts.
