NDR 2026: Singapore should not retreat or turn inward in the face of an unstable world, says PM Wong

Trade is increasingly shaped by security considerations as competition between great powers intensifies, and conflicts raise the risk of miscalculation and escalation, said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in his National Day Rally speech on Sunday (Aug 23). He said these shifts are the “new normal” that Singapore will have to endure and survive for many years to come. Singapore’s response cannot be to retreat or turn inward, he added.
