Motion in parliament: Edward Chia on an economy of the future that works for all

In parliament on Wednesday (Aug 5), MP Edward Chia sought to make amendments to the motion, saying it would strengthen it in three ways. Firstly, it makes clear that the aspirations of inclusion, entrepreneurship, innovation and good jobs are aligned with the Economic Strategy Review, not pursued in spite of it. Secondly, it recognises that Singapore's future economy needs both dynamic local companies and global enterprises. Thirdly, it recognises that healthy domestic demand must be supported by strong external demand, especially for a small and open economy like Singapore. Speaker Seah Kian Peng told the House that the debate can range over the original motion and the amendments, after the majority of Members gave their assent.
