India is one of the world's biggest producers of sugar and also its largest consumer. But prices have risen sharply in recent weeks, just as demand is expected to pick up for the festive season. The government has now asked sugar mills to ensure adequate supplies and keep prices at "reasonable" levels - the latest in a series of measures aimed at cooling the market. Retail prices have eased from their peak, but remain elevated. Rebecca Bundhun filed this report for CNA from New Delhi.
