Canada PM Carney welcomes EU's associate member idea despite Trump threats

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has welcomed the European Union's pitch to make Ottawa its first "associate member", brushing off threats and ridicule from US President Donald Trump. Addressing the EU parliament, he stressed the importance of alliances and cooperation, while warning that no one should "dictate" who Canada signs agreements with.
