The Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has said the ‘time is up’ for the media industry to take sexual abuse ‘seriously’ in the wake of Russell Brand's convictions. Asked by Laura Kuenssberg whether there was still a problem with exploitation and sexual abuse in the media and culture sectors, Nandy said: ‘Yes I do, and I think hand on heart, I can’t say to you as the Culture Secretary that this is not happening today. In fact if I had to wager, I would say it is’. She said this assessment was based in part because as Culture Secretary she had received allegations from people working in media organisations. And she said she did ‘not see that much has changed in terms of the way that institutions in the media industry and across public life including politics deal with women who very bravely come forward to allege abuse’. Speaking on Remembrance Sunday she also discussed her role as Culture Secretary at the Cenotaph memorial and spoke about the need for a closer relationship with the EU while not repeating "circular arguments about in or out". #BBCLauraK #Politics #BBCNews For the latest news download the BBC News app or visit BBC.com/news
