Gadi Eizenkot, a former Israeli army chief of staff, is one of the main challengers to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party. After retiring from the army in 2019, he entered the Knesset in 2022 and now leads the newly formed right-of-centre Yashar party. He opposes Palestinian statehood, supports retaining large illegal settlements and says Israel must maintain military and security control from the river to the sea. Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh reports.
