A group of Israeli political advisers worked on a secret campaign targeting Qatar after the Hamas-led October 7 attacks, according to the Haaretz newspaper. It reported the campaign was intended to pressure Qatar because of its relationship with Hamas. The newspaper says the plan was later abruptly withdrawn. Qatar has been an important mediator between Hamas and Israel. Israeli officials have repeatedly travelled to Doha for indirect talks with Hamas. Yet, Israel carried out a missile strike on the country last September, targeting Hamas’s negotiators. Six people were killed including a Qatari national. So what's behind these seemingly contradictory actions?
