Sudan’s displaced children find refuge in makeshift schools amid war

In Sudan’s war-torn regions, makeshift schools in displacement camps are giving children a place to learn, play and escape the realities of conflict. Teachers and humanitarian organisations are using education, games and creative activities to help children cope with the psychological impact of war. Teacher Qisma Suleiman says children’s trauma can be seen in their drawings, which include combat vehicles and drones. Mohamed Kamal of Plan International explains how these learning spaces help displaced children develop new skills and imagine a future beyond years of displacement. For many children, the classroom offers more than education: it provides a temporary refuge from the harsh realities of war.
