Israeli settler attacks surge in occupied West Bank as Palestinians demand protection

Israeli settler attacks in the occupied West Bank have reached unprecedented levels, with Palestinians accusing Israeli authorities of failing to protect them. At least 23 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,040 injured in settler attacks across the occupied West Bank since the start of 2026. Israeli rights group Yesh Din says 93.6 percent of 1,750 police investigations into settler violence opened between 2005 and 2025 ended without an indictment, while only 3 percent resulted in full or partial convictions. Palestinians say the lack of accountability, alongside the expansion of illegal settlement outposts, is emboldening settlers and putting communities at greater risk. A recent court acquittal of a settler who assaulted a French nun in Jerusalem has further fuelled concerns about accountability.
