Russian President Vladimir Putin has hosted US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow as Washington seeks to revive peace talks to end the war in Ukraine. Putin thanked US President Donald Trump for his involvement in efforts to resolve the conflict, while the US envoys thanked the Russian president for a temporary three-day “no-shoot” policy in Moscow and Kyiv that allowed their diplomatic mission to continue safely. The talks come as the war continues on the battlefield. Despite the temporary pause around the capitals, Russian and Ukrainian strikes have continued in other areas, including Zaporizhzhia and Russia’s Belgorod region. Witkoff and Kushner are expected to continue their diplomatic mission in Kyiv as Washington attempts to restart negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. The latest effort comes amid continuing disagreements over territory, security guarantees and the terms of any potential ceasefire.
