In a dramatic development ahead of the US midterm elections, Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens has endorsed Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan's closely contested Senate race, rejecting her party's nominee, Abdul El-Sayed. Stevens had previously pledged to support El-Sayed, but their relationship deteriorated after he refused to denounce an advert criticising US support for Israel's war in Gaza. President Donald Trump praised Stevens for crossing party lines while attacking El-Sayed over his Muslim faith. The endorsement has exposed divisions among Michigan Democrats, who accuse Stevens of undermining their candidate and helping Rogers, whom they link to Trump. Rogers has welcomed the support, although it remains unclear whether the endorsement will influence voters with just one full day of campaigning left. Meanwhile, El-Sayed has been seeking support from Black voters, speaking at a church in Detroit as both campaigns try to secure crucial voter blocs.
