Femicides of five students spark fear and protests in Mexico's Morelos state

Five female students at the Autonomous University of Morelos have been killed in the last 18 months, sparking fear and mourning across the campus in central Mexico. The most recent victim, Claudia Tacoronte, a 21-year-old exchange student from Spain, had been in the country just a month when authorities say she was stabbed during an attempted robbery. A suspect has been detained. President Claudia Sheinbaum says her government is bringing down the overall murder rate, including in Morelos. But students say they take daily precautions to protect themselves, from sharing their location with family to photographing what they're wearing before leaving home, hoping they won't have to mourn another classmate.
