A Florida woman was arrested for misusing 911 services after repeatedly calling the emergency line because a bar refused to serve her a Jell-O shot. She also faces charges for trespassing and marijuana possession.
This incident highlights the misuse of emergency services for non-critical issues, diverting law enforcement resources from genuine emergencies and potentially leading to further charges for the individual involved.
Last week, a woman identified as Diane Blalock was arrested in Ocala, Florida, for repeatedly calling 911 because a bar, the No Where Bar, refused to serve her a Jell-O shot. According to the arrest affidavit, Blalock placed three calls to 911, hoping deputies would help her obtain alcohol. A deputy responded to the bar after unsuccessful phone contact attempts. While the deputy was en route, Blalock called again. The deputy found Blalock outside the bar and learned she had also asked for a ride home due to medical conditions, which law enforcement could not provide. The bar owner confirmed Blalock had been issued a trespass warning, which deputies verified. A search incident to her arrest revealed a small amount of marijuana and two pipes. After being evaluated by Marion County Fire Rescue due to her statements about drinking and smoking marijuana, Blalock was medically cleared and taken to the Marion County Jail. She faces charges including misuse of 911 services, trespassing, and possession of not more than 20 grams of marijuana.
