The Trump administration has officially launched si.gov, a new web address for its artificial intelligence policy, adopting President Donald Trump's preferred term 'Super Intelligence' (SI). This rebranding effort, formalized in a September 29 executive order, aims to shift the public and industry's terminology away from 'artificial intelligence' (AI).
Michael Kratsios, the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, announced the new site on X, stating, "The Super Intelligence era is here. 🇺🇸." Trump has previously declared that those who continue to use the term 'artificial intelligence' would be considered an 'enemy' of his White House, believing the term makes the technology sound 'fake'.
Tech leaders have shown mixed reactions to the request. SpaceXAI, following a promise from CEO Elon Musk, rebranded its AI division to SpaceXSI. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella published a statement titled 'Models as Insider Risks in the Super Intelligence Era,' notably omitting the terms 'AI' and 'artificial intelligence.' OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, however, has stated there are 'No plans to do that' regarding a rebrand, though he acknowledged ongoing discussions about super intelligence.
