Vedanta Aluminium made its stock market debut on the BSE at Rs 527 and on the NSE at Rs 522, achieving a market capitalization of Rs 2.06 lakh crore. This listing is part of a significant corporate restructuring by the Vedanta group, which involved demerging its businesses into five entities: Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vedanta Oil and Gas, Vedanta Power, Vedanta Iron and Steel, and the residual Vedanta entity.
Following the demerger, Vedanta Aluminium Metal has emerged as the most valuable company within the group, while Vedanta Iron and Steel holds the least market capitalization. Vedanta is recognized as the largest producer of aluminium in India, and the valuation of its aluminium business aligned with analyst expectations.
Despite the initial gains, shares of the four newly listed demerged businesses—Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vedanta Oil and Gas, Vedanta Power, and Vedanta Iron and Steel—ended the trading session lower on the BSE. However, the combined value of these four entities, along with the remaining Vedanta entity, reached approximately ₹902. This figure represents a 20% increase compared to the last traded value of the consolidated Vedanta entity on April 29, which was ₹773.25.
Anil Agarwal, the non-executive chairman of Vedanta, reflected on the company's history, stating that the seed planted 24 years ago with Vedanta's establishment on the London Stock Exchange had now grown into a large tree, with each branch ready to become a strong entity on its own.
