Russia awaits Trump peace proposals, vows to continue fighting

Russia stated it will await new peace proposals from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine war, while vowing to continue military operations until its objectives are achieved. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed belief in Trump's sincerity but blamed Ukraine's European allies for prolonging the conflict.

Peskov indicated that Russia would continue fighting to achieve its objectives by military means, describing it as the "preferred path" given the absence of peace prospects. He noted that while the U.S. administration's desire to facilitate a peaceful settlement aligns with Russia's interests, the U.S. continues to supply weapons to Ukraine, creating an ambiguous position.

The Kremlin has repeatedly stated its hope that U.S. mediation will resume once the Middle East crisis has eased, with top U.S. and Russian diplomats having met briefly in Asia recently. Russia has expressed readiness to host Trump's envoys for talks in Moscow, though no date has been set.

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are leading Washington's efforts to broker a settlement. They are expected to travel to Russia in late July or early August after coordinating with Ukrainian officials. President Zelensky and President Trump are also preparing to meet to discuss the peace initiative.
