The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on July 4 that Russia has sustained approximately 1,408,340 troops since the full-scale invasion commenced on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,190 casualties incurred by Russian forces over the preceding day. The General Staff also reported significant equipment losses for Russia, including 12,074 tanks, 24,869 armored combat vehicles, 115,644 vehicles and fuel tanks, 45,325 artillery systems, 1,913 multiple launch rocket systems, and 1,469 air defense systems. Russia has also lost 436 aircraft, 353 helicopters, 1,815 ground robotic systems, 389,110 drones, 4,847 cruise missiles, 33 ships and boats, and two submarines. Ukraine's General Staff has withheld information regarding its own losses, citing operational secrecy. However, independent Western think-tank analyses suggest that Russian casualties substantially exceed those of Ukraine. A January 2026 report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimated that Ukraine likely suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, with an estimated 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action.
