South Korean authorities have arrested two former Chinese military officers on suspicion of espionage, including eavesdropping and leaking classified information. One suspect is accused of intercepting communications between fighter jets and air traffic controllers near a joint South Korean-U.S. air base. The second suspect allegedly collected classified information on U.S. military movements.
Separately, the South Korean Coast Guard seized eight Chinese fishing boats off the country's west coast for anchoring in the area for an extended period without permission. The vessels are suspected of violating the Ship Act and the Public Waters Management and Reclamation Act. Three of the seized boats were unmanned, with 10 crew members aboard the remaining ships. Officials plan to investigate whether the boats were involved in illegal fishing operations.
