The restoration of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, a project completed under President Donald Trump's administration, has become a point of contention and discussion. The author highlights that the project was finished in months at a cost of approximately $13 million, contrasting it with earlier estimates that suggested a $300 million price tag and a multi-year timeline for traditional Washington projects. The navy blue sealant chosen for the pool's base has been noted as a significant aesthetic improvement, enhancing the reflections. However, the final cost has drawn criticism, with some pointing out it exceeded the initial $1.8 million estimate by nearly $11.3 million. The article also references a previous $34 million renovation undertaken during the Obama administration that reportedly took two years and was ultimately unsuccessful in fully addressing the pool's issues. Some Democrats have publicly acknowledged the improved appearance of the pool, with one quoted as saying they 'hate that' they have to admit it looks good, despite initial reservations about the color choice.
