Tesla has officially opened US orders for the Model Y L, a six-seat, three-row variant of its popular SUV, with prices starting at $61,990. This premium electric vehicle, which debuted in China nearly a year ago and achieved significant sales success there, is now set to become available in the American market starting in October.
Initially, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had suggested the Model Y L might not come to the US, citing his belief in the imminent obsolescence of traditional transportation due to autonomous vehicles. However, with the widespread adoption of driverless technology still pending, Tesla is proceeding with the US launch.
The Model Y L offers a range of 325 miles, slightly more than the base Model Y. Interior features include heated and ventilated seats for the first two rows, touchscreens, and power-reclining third-row seats with one-touch folding for easy stowage. The 'Launch series' of the Model Y L comes with a year of complimentary Supercharging and Full Self-Driving capability. Additionally, like all Teslas, the Model Y L will be equipped with an AI assistant powered by SpaceX's Grok model.
