State Representative James Talarico, the Democratic candidate in the Texas U.S. Senate race, has dismissed personal attacks and insults from President Trump and his Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Talarico told MS NOW’s Eugene Daniels that he believes voters are tired of political theater and are instead looking for elected officials who will focus on substantive issues and bipartisan legislation. He characterized the insults as 'corny nicknames' and 'politics as professional wrestling,' suggesting that such tactics do not address the needs of Texans.
Specifically addressing Paxton's 'Low-T Talarico' insult, Talarico stated that he had to look up its meaning and that men his age are not concerned with such personal attacks. He argued that these insults expose a lack of solutions from Republican leaders regarding the economy, lowering costs, and raising pay for Texans.
Talarico, who won the Democratic primary in March, is set to face Paxton in November for the seat currently held by incumbent GOP Senator John Cornyn. He expressed optimism about his campaign's chances, viewing the Republicans' reliance on personal attacks as an indication of their inability to present a strong affirmative argument to voters.
