Taiwan tests HIMARS rockets in anti-invasion drill

Taiwan's military conducted a live-fire exercise on its west coast, firing U.S.-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) into the Taiwan Strait. The drill simulated repelling a Chinese invasion and showcased the system's 'shoot-and-scoot' capability, allowing it to quickly relocate after firing to enhance survivability.

China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, maintains a daily military presence near the island. Taiwan's west coast is considered the most likely landing zone for a Chinese invasion. The HIMARS, with a range of approximately 300 km, could potentially strike targets in China's Fujian province, forming part of Taiwan's 'porcupine' defense strategy.

The exercise involved reduced-range training rockets and also included 155mm howitzers. The HIMARS system's rapid deployment, demonstrated by launching rockets within three minutes, highlighted its importance in Taiwan's defense modernization efforts.
