Spotify announced it will begin labeling AI-generated artists with 'AI Persona' profile tags and will exclude their music from its editorial and algorithmic recommendations. Starting mid-September, users will see these badges on profiles that represent AI-generated identities rather than real people. The company will conduct reviews of artist profiles to identify and label AI Personas. These badges will be visible on artist banners, 'About' sections, search results, and playlists. By default, music from AI Personas will not be included in personalized recommendations unless a user explicitly chooses to follow such an artist. Artists will have the ability to appeal if they believe their profile has been incorrectly labeled as an AI Persona. The company emphasized that the 'AI Persona' designation pertains to the artist's public identity, not the method of music creation. Artists will be able to self-disclose their AI Persona status via Spotify for Artists starting August 11, 2026.
