Spirit of Hong Kong Awards finalist founded youth cancer charity

Chan's personal experience with cancer in September 2019, which involved surgery and chemotherapy, highlighted the lack of specific support for his age group. He noted that during his treatment, he was largely surrounded by elderly patients and faced challenges reconnecting with his studies and career as a survivor without dedicated resources. This led him to share his vision on social media in July 2022, culminating in the establishment of "Stars of Life," Hong Kong's first platform for adolescent and young cancer support and advocacy.

Youth Cancer Hong Kong was officially registered as a charitable organization under Hong Kong government regulations on July 20, 2023. The organization is led by patients, survivors, and professionals from medical and social welfare backgrounds. It aims to raise public awareness of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer, promote the development of social resources, and support scientific research, believing that hope and resilience are key to the cancer journey for young people.
