Senator John Kennedy has emerged as a significant draw on the Republican campaign trail, headlining events that have generated substantial fundraising for GOP candidates across the country. A recent trip to Ohio with Senator Jon Husted helped raise over $2 million, according to Kennedy. He also appeared in New Hampshire alongside former Senator John Sununu, who is seeking to reclaim his former seat.
Kennedy has recently supported state-party events in Indiana and Tennessee, with attendees reporting that the Tennessee event broke fundraising records. He has further plans to visit Michigan, Georgia, and other key Senate battleground states. Kennedy noted that he sometimes has to decline requests due to his busy schedule and the fact that some colleagues are expected to win without his assistance.
Husted praised Kennedy's "common-sense approach to governing," while Kennedy colorfully described Husted as "what cool looks like." During a Politics & Eggs event attended by Sununu, an audience member expressed strong support for Kennedy, yelling, "Well, we love you!"
While Kennedy has traveled to support Senate races in 2024, his current prominence is particularly notable because he has no declared leadership ambitions, a factor that typically drives senators to engage in fundraising. His appearances on Fox News and the success of his book, "How to Test Negative for Stupid: And Why Washington Never Will," which spent months on The New York Times bestseller list, have broadened his appeal among Republican voters beyond his home state.
