Sadiq Khan open to West Ham bid for London Stadium

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has indicated a willingness to discuss a potential sale of the London Stadium to West Ham United, a significant shift from his previous stance. Khan stated he would welcome and consider any credible proposal that could deliver greater value for money for Londoners.

The current arrangement sees the publicly owned stadium costing taxpayers approximately £19 million per year, while West Ham United operates under a long-term lease. The prospect of the club owning the venue has gained traction following news that Amanda Staveley's consortium, PCP Capital Partners, is set to acquire a 25.1% stake in the club. Staveley has indicated that property will be a major part of her future football investments, fueling speculation that securing ownership of the London Stadium could be a long-term objective.

The London Legacy Development Corporation confirmed it would consider any future proposals that align with its goals of supporting east London, encouraging investment, and ensuring the stadium's success. While Khan had previously stated the stadium was not for sale, his latest comments suggest the door is now open should a suitable offer emerge.
