Russia's Northern Fleet has released footage showing its Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine conducting a successful missile test in the Barents Sea. The vessel, a Project 885M Yasen-M class submarine, fired an Oniks cruise missile from an underwater position, striking a target approximately 200 km away that simulated a surface ship. The Yasen-M class is noted for its reduced acoustic signature, making it difficult to detect. These submarines are also equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles and Tsirkon hypersonic missiles. The Arkhangelsk has been in service with the Northern Fleet since December 2024. Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously lauded the capabilities of this submarine class, stating they are capable of performing a wide variety of tasks, including striking underwater, surface, and land targets.
