Romania's navy successfully detonated an anti-landing mine of Russian YaRM-type that had drifted to its Black Sea shore near the towns of Vama Veche and 2 Mai. The Romanian Ministry of Defence confirmed the incident. Romania, along with Bulgaria and Turkey, maintains a joint task force dedicated to clearing stray mines from the Black Sea. Since the commencement of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Romanian soldiers have neutralized a total of nine drifting mines out of 156 that have been discovered and destroyed in the Black Sea. The Black Sea is a vital waterway for the shipment of grain, oil, and oil products, shared by Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Russia.
