Rivian is rolling out updates for its 2027 model year R1S SUV and R1T pickup, drawing inspiration from its recently released R2 model. The most significant change is the introduction of captain's chairs for the second row of the R1S, a feature highly requested by customers. These chairs offer a hidden cupholder and ample space between them for cargo or access to the third row.
The automaker has also aligned the trim structure with the R2, renaming them to Premium and Performance, while retaining the Quad designation. Despite these updates, pricing remains unchanged, with the R1T starting at $79,990 and the R1S at $83,990.
Technical specifications for range and power have not been altered. The Premium R1S offers a standard range of 329 miles, expandable to 410 miles with an optional larger battery, while the R1T can reach 420 miles. Power outputs remain at 533 hp, upgradable to 655 hp, with the Performance R1S featuring an 850 hp tri-motor powertrain and a range of 371 miles.
Interior options include Black Mountain, Ocean Coast, and Slate Sky. The Black Mountain interior is the only one that can be specified with a middle bench seat; captain's chairs add $1,500 to the required $2,500 Sound+Vision package. The Ocean Coast interior with captain's chairs costs $4,000, and the Sky Slate interior costs $4,500.
Additionally, Rivian is introducing a new Esker silver paint color, replacing the previous LA Silver, and a new 20-inch all-season tire and wheel option for the R1T designed to improve both on- and off-road performance.
