Parents are increasingly involved in helping their children afford a down payment for a home, viewing it as a long-term financial goal, according to a new report from Coldwell Banker Real Estate. The 2026 American Dream Report, released October 28, found that 82% of parents with young children are saving or considering saving for their child's future down payment. This trend highlights the enduring value of homeownership despite affordability challenges from high interest rates and prices. Many families are now treating home buying as a team effort, with parents actively participating in financial planning and contributing funds, sometimes through loans that are expected to be repaid. The report surveyed 2,060 U.S. adults.
