Pakistan Cricket Board to decide on captain and coach futures

A PCB source indicated that a primary focus of the meeting will be whether Shan Masood will continue to lead the Test side for upcoming tours to England and the West Indies. There is a sentiment among some selectors and board officials that Salman Ali Agha should be given the opportunity to captain the Test team. Despite Masood's expressed desire to continue, the recent series loss could impact the decision.

Regarding the head coach role, the source stated that no deal has been finalized with Sarfaraz Khan. Former captain Younis Khan is reportedly being considered, though he is known for being a tough negotiator. Mohammad Hafeez is another potential candidate, with PCB officials having held discussions with both.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is reportedly seeking significant changes as he is not satisfied with the overall progress of Pakistan cricket. Naqvi also intends to address the issue of officials holding multiple roles within the board, citing individuals like Misbah Ul Haq, Asad Shafiq, Sarfaraz, and Aaqib Javed who are selectors while also holding other positions. The head coach for white-ball formats, Mike Hesson, is also involved in selection matters.

In addition to the captain and coach, a decision on the appointment of the Director (international cricket) may also be made during the meeting, which is expected to clarify the situation by Saturday.
