Nissan will introduce its Rogue e-Power hybrid vehicle in the US in November, aiming for hybrid models to quickly represent 30% to 40% of its C-segment mid-sized car sales in the market. The company also plans to bring the Kicks e-Power hybrid to the US and Canada soon.
Nissan's introduction of the Rogue e-Power hybrid in the US signals a strategic push into the electrified vehicle market, aiming to capture a significant share of the mid-sized car segment and increase domestic production. This move reflects broader industry trends towards electrification and localization in response to market demands and trade policies.
Nissan will launch its Rogue e-Power hybrid vehicle in the US in November, aiming to significantly increase the market share of its hybrid offerings. Christian Meunier, Nissan Americas Chairman, stated that the company targets for hybrid vehicles to "very quickly" constitute 30% to 40% of total C-segment mid-sized car sales in the US.
Globally, Nissan has sold over 2 million e-Power vehicles, but this technology has not been available in the US until now. Meunier indicated that Nissan also plans to introduce the more compact Kicks e-Power hybrid to the US and Canada as soon as possible. The company intends to expand hybrid powertrains to larger SUV models and pickup trucks in the future.
Nissan is also working towards increasing US manufacturing localization to 80% by the end of 2030, up from the current 65%. This follows a period where localization was around 40% before US tariffs were imposed in early 2025. Meunier suggested that US production of the Rogue e-Power could commence as early as 2028.
Regarding competition, Meunier does not anticipate the US market opening to Chinese automakers within the next five years, citing strong opposition from most automakers due to concerns about low-priced Chinese competition. However, Nissan is preparing for the eventual entry of Chinese automakers by shortening vehicle development cycles and reducing costs. The company also plans to launch the China-made Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid pickup in Mexico and other Latin American markets.
