Trump threatens new tariffs on Britain

Donald Trump is reportedly threatening to impose new blanket tariffs on Britain and other countries. Meanwhile, Nigel Farage has insisted that recent violence in Southampton is 'the beginning' of further unrest, despite calls from Keir Starmer to cease his 'appeal for rage' over the Henry Nowak murder case. Farage, who previously called for 'pure cold rage' in response to the case, pushed back against criticism from the prime minister and doubled down on his claims of 'two-tier policing' in Britain. Tensions escalated during Prime Minister's Questions, where Farage blamed Hampshire police's actions for the violence in Southampton, which led to 11 police officers being harmed and two arrests. MPs accused Farage of encouraging the disorder. Starmer rejected Farage's claims of 'two-tier policing' discriminating against white people, stating he does not believe it exists. Farage, however, maintained that Starmer was wrong and pointed to the National Police Chiefs Council guidance on race being rewritten. He warned that division would worsen and that the events in Southampton were 'the beginning.' Policing Minister Sarah Jones acknowledged that the language in the guidance needs rewriting, stating 'It gives the wrong impression,' but asserted that statistics do not support evidence of two-tier policing across Britain. Separately, Farage secured an apology from the BBC after presenter Matt Chorley misquoted him on Newsnight. Chorley apologized, and the BBC removed the episode from iPlayer and is expected to issue an on-air apology. The government is also promising a review into WhatsApp usage, which was initially scheduled for the end of 2025.
